Tia Loring passed away August 19, 2008

Posted in

Tia Loring from Bataan passed away last August 19. Unfortunately, Tio Jaime is suffering from Alzheimer and may not even aware of the lost he just had.

What is your memory of Tia Loring?

I met Tia Loring a few times before when we were still in the Philippines and visited them in Bataan with Vic's family. She always showed a lot of enthusiasm in seeing her visiting relatives from Manila and prepared them lots of shrimp, lobster, and crabs among the few.

There were lots of good memories of Tia Loring that we will always treasure in our hearts. We offer our prayers for the repose of her soul and for healing of mind for Tio Alejandro. We also offer our most sincere condolences to the bereaved family.

Below are some photos of Tia Loring's family courtesy of Mila. Click to enlarge.

Hello, dear cousins!

Tita Pacita is now staying in Tower Grange Nursing Home (Bec’s place of work) which is about 15-20 minutes brisk walk from my house. Pero kung si Mila and Vin and maglalakad from my place, 1 hour dahil sa edad.

After my heart palpitated and got sick (in the mind?), the doctor advised me to rest for a while, hence brought Tita Pacita to the respite hospital for 2 weeks, then to the present nursing home where she is staying. She is well taken care of there as Becs is one of the nurse there.

Tower Grange Nursing home contact is 9544 8167 connect to GRANGE then tell the head nurse (Sister) you want to talk with PACITA Castro.

The sister has a portable phone to give Tita Chit.

Ciao and magluluto pa ako,
Benjie

PS paki-desimminate na lang sa other relatives and mom’s 2 surviving sisters.

The much needed vacation

I’ve been busy with projects that I can only do on weekends and have not been able to join Vic in seeing Mommy Gloria lately. So for the past three weekends, I've been going to church by myself but at least Vic can still find the time to continue his regular visits and Mom can still go to mass and that’s what’s more important. I promise to make it up with her as soon as my projects ease up. Anyway, we have long before scheduled a week vacation next week plus we will be attending the SCRC Convention. Vic and I need this time off badly. We’ve been so tired and stressed for so long and the plan to take time off is long overdue. We need a quiet time together doing nothing, just absolutely nothing. Just allow our body and mind to refresh and get energized. We have not done this in a long time and we both are looking forward to it. For healthier body and mind, dear everyone, please do try to relax too and I mean r-e-l-a-x for your health sake.
Please read this article to learn and enjoy!

Last Sunday, we joined Albert and Joshua in celebrating their birthdays. There were many friends and relatives from Grace's side but from the Samson clan, only Vic, Mom, Dida and I were able to attend. The food was great as usual and we ate a lot.

Incredible love of a father to his son...what more is the love of our God the Father to us.

Make sure your speaker is turned on.

Let's treasure our relationship with our loved ones for life. This is a true story!

A son asked his father: 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me? The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad , let's join the Ironman together.' To which, his father said 'Yes' too. For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195> kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race together.

Mommy's Boarding House

Last Sunday, Vic and Mommy decided to move our visit day from Saturday to Sunday so that we can spend longer time with her and still can do some errands like buying cards and sando last Sunday. When we visited Mom on Saturdays, our time was limited to church and dinner. By the time we were done, it's already about 9:00PM and most, if not all, establishments were already closed. Sunday was perfect and Mom was glad about the move.

So, last Sunday, we picked her up at around 8:30AM for mass. By the time we left her place, it was already close to 9 because Mom cannot move as fast as she or we would want her to. The mass last Sunday was nice, and the music was pretty good. The choir lead singer and only singer was a young Filipina. She has a beautiful voice. I liked her voice. Wish I had her voice. he he

After the mass, we proceeded to have lunch at Town Sent Seafood Restaurant. It's a chinese restaurant which was Mom's favs. This was the 4th time we ate at this place. We love everything they have in their menu and lunch is much cheaper than dinner so the change of schedule really worked for us and our pocket. We ordered Lo Mein, Orange Beef, Spicy Eggplant and Pork Chop. We ate a lot and still had leftovers to go.

Vic noticed something not usual with Mom after lunch. She seem to have some pain or discomfort in her legs but Mom said it's just a cramp. Vic kind of got worried especially when he spoke with Pete that evening and learned that Mom had a fall just a few days ago. The landlord must have forgotten to tell Vic about it. (Update: The landlord actually called Vic and left a message but as usual, Vic's cell was off.) It caused Vic to be concerned because, unliked years ago when Mom was living with us, she still could even cook if she wanted to. And when she was with Pete and Annie, she could even exercise in their treadmill everyday and can walk faster. When she was with Jun and Mel, she could even walk up and down the stairs. But now it's different. She's now 88 and can't do much on her own or walk by herself without any assistance. Mom has great landlords but it's always better with her own family around her. Before, if we didn't see Mom for months, we never get worried because if she was with one of her sons, you know that she will be taken care of well and you don’t feel anything wrong could happen. That's why Vic and I try our best to commit to at least every Sunday visits with Mom. I know and can feel how happy she is when she knows we or any of the members of her family are coming. I can say she’s really looking forward to it.

Well, anyways, we have two reasons to celebrate this weekend. It's July 4th - Independence day, July 4th Jerold's birthday, and July 5th - Vic's birthday. Vic chose not to celebrate but will spend time with Mom on Sunday. So I wish you all fun, lots of barbeque and family fun time together on this day.
I took some photo and video clips of mom last weekend and will be posting it here tomorrow. Please check it out. Take care ya 'ol and we love you. Muaaaah!

Let's Keep Praying for Tita Chit

These photos were sent by Mila a couple of months ago. It's so heartbreaking to see Tita Chit in these pictures because we know that she's always been thin all her life but in these pictures, she's even thinner. The cute baby is one of Benjie and Becks' twin apo. Let's continue praying for God's will for Tita Chit.

The Three Wonderful Samson Sisters

Posted in

The three wonderful Samson sisters: Tita Chit, Tita Virgie and Mom Gloria. As I have observed them, they are different from each other in some ways but equally beautiful in their own respective ways, looks, style, and wisdom.

Tita Virgie – the youngest
…. is the intellectual and the educator. She is fun to be with because she exude positive attitude and sense of humor. As a professor (she retired from UP, Diliman QC), she was a terror, according to a friend who was her student at one time. Our friend failed her class. But for us, she's a funny bubbly witty lady.

Tita Chit – the middle
… is the quiet, comforting, generous, appreciative, passive, supportive and a good listener. They say old people (and I know I'm getting there too) can become slow and difficult, but Tita Chit is not the type to burden anyone.

Mommy Glo – the oldest

…. is the commander in chief as how most relatives described her, maybe because mom is the oldest child in their large family and seemed to always have the last say in the whole clan. She is a very strong willed person but well respected by both friends and relatives. Mom may have a hearing and walking problem but her mind is still sharp at age 88.

Tita Chit is the object of our special love and affection these days because of her current health conditions and we are praying for God’s will for her. Please pray for her and also for Tita Virgie whom as we were told is also ill. Vic loves both her Titas but it’s with Tita Chit that he was able to spend more time with since she lived here in the US for a while.

We just learned that Dida and daughter Jennifer are leaving for Australia this Friday to be with Tita Chit whose condition has worsened. Let us all please storm the heavens with prayers for Tita Chit and also for her whole family.
